Tacoma Elks Club
“Sam Allen Sports Lounge”

The Tacoma Elks Club was the setting for the April meeting, hosted by Larry and Gayla Kanaster. Twenty-four members gathered around 10am for champagne and coffee, followed by a buffet brunch. The Ileta Bogue award for Woman of the Year was presented to Sara Barrow, Bonnet editor. Members Don and Mary Simpson were welcomed back. Following the meeting there was a drawing for door prizes with something for each couple or individual in attendance. Doug and Carrie Murray won a $50 gift certificate for Brooklands British Cars in Tacoma. Other prizes included a MGTF jigsaw puzzle, numerous car-care items provided by Griot’s Garage and a variety of car cleaning/detailing supplies. Those driving their MG’s were Don and Mary Simpson, Guy and Carita Boswell, Paul and Joan Good and Larry and Gayla Kanaster. Don and Mary drove down from Seattle and couldn’t get over 3500 RPM all the way to Tacoma. After brunch Paul Barrow found the problem was in the linkage between the carburetors and expertly fixed the problem while the rest of the group expertly “ supervised” his work while taking copious mental notes for future reference. Unfortunately, Don and Mary had some more problems on the drive home as they approached Seattle (not carburetor related) and eventually had to have the car towed home. Ah, nothing like the thrill and excitement of driving old cars!
