August 15-16

Marina Inn Anacortes, WA
The sun came out to greet the crew of MG enthusiasts who arrived in Anacortes for a weekend adventure and showing off our beautiful cars. We had a great showing of MG’s- with 4 TDs and 2 TF’s in attendance along with an A, 2 B’s and a ZB, despite the misfortune of a few members who were unable to drive their beloved MG’s. The group was joined by a few members of the Mt. Baker MG Club for the weekend, as well as by a couple from Michigan, Tom & Gloria Burke, who just happened upon Bill & Esther Mars on Friday night. They were on vacation out here and are members of the MG club in their local area.
Saturday began with the car show at Storvik Park just down the road from our hotel. After a few hours of showing off our cars and catching up with another, we gathered for a drive designed by Ed Monell and led by Lee & Betty Dawes through the scenic roads of Fidalgo Island to Deception Pass where we lunched at Bowman Bay. The drive continued after lunch exploring Deception Pass State Park and more of the back roads of Anacortes. After a few libations enjoyed during the cocktail hour, we journeyed on to the nautically themed Randies Pier 61 for dinner where we feasted on a wonderful dinner and chatted with equally wonderful people.
Joan Good donated a few door prizes for the group. We decided to have a bit of fun with these and gave a $25 dollar gift certificate to Books4Cars.com to the person who drove the furthest (Tim & Gloria from Michigan!); the two hand car washes from Park Place Ltd. in Bellevue were given to Ed & Jean Monell as a consolation prize for their scheduling snafu – and the fact that we appreciated their work on the drive, which was quite lovely even if they couldn’t join us. And finally, we had a few members who had all intentions of driving their MG so the $50 gift certificate to Crown Hill Automotive in Seattle went to the person who had the ‘Sorriest Story’ of why, despite their best efforts, they weren’t able to drive their MG (The winners were Rob & Pat Garrett who had a few disconnected spark plugs and for Rob who was shocked several times trying to resolve the problem before giving up and driving a non-MG).

Driving their MG’s were: Joe & Jacquie Walck: TD and B; Bill & Esther Mars: TD; Lee & Betty Dawes: TD; Dave & Liz DuBois: TD; Jim & Jan Rothwell: TF; Charles & Bev Landegraf: TF; Joan & Paul Good: MG A; Bruce & Sue Knipe: ZB; Bob & Stephanie Kampas B GT

A note from our new friends from Michigan:
Please pass along to everyone who attended the Mini GOF in Anacortes our thanks for including us in that event. We so appreciate your generous hospitality. Because of the sightseeing suggestions given us by some of the members who are Anacortes residents, we have had a spectacular visit here. Tomorrow we leave for Seattle but we bring with us a cherished memory of a special day spent with our new Northwest Register MG friends.
Thanks again,
Gloria and Tom Burke

A note from a participant:
A big "Thank you" to Susan and Joe Colombo for another super Mini-GoF! Not only was the event well planned, but they even had sunshine for all of us to enjoy! Thanks, Susan and Joe, for your hard work in making this an event to remember!
