The Great Roadkill Murder Mystery

September 15, 2007

The NWMGTR event for September was hosted by Larry and Arla Helser at their home in Woodinville, and for those of you that weren't able to make it, you missed a real treat!  This was one of those Mystery meetings.  The idea behind it was all the participants had a book of information containing their character description, a set of information tidbits that they were not to reveal unless specifically asked, and some information they were to work into the conversation.  Hopefully, by keeping track of the questions and answers, and a careful perusal of the clues that were provided during the discussions, you could identify who the murderer was.  The enjoyment came from the snipits of information that kept being provided.  Whoever wrote the whole thing (it was a commercial endeavor) was really clever, and I would say the group (15 of us) were in stitches for about two hours.  The culprit was finally identified, but not by any of the guests, all of which were themselves suspects!

Larry and Arla provided the game setting, a nice pizza and salad luncheon, dessert, and some wine and soft drinks to loosen the conversation!  Everyone had a great time. Driving MG's were Dave and Liz DuBois (TD), Ben and Laura Prince (TF), and Larry and Arla displayed their red and white TF plus red MGB.  The rest of us had various foreign (American, Japanese, and German) iron.  We welcomed the new members Doug and Carey Murray from Olympia.  Several had western hats but most outstanding was Carey Murray dressed in a real cowgirl outfit and Jean McGarah in an elaborate school "marm" dress and hat.

The only sad part of the day was a plastic versus steel collision, resulting in Ben and Laura requiring a new left rear wing and some other bodywork - a real shame considering the beautiful finish on the Prince's car.  They did make it to the event, however.

All in all, it was a delightful afternoon of tire kicking, eating, and conversation, with the added spice of  a nice mystery to solve.  Many thanks to the Helsers for entertaining us in their very nice home.  If something like this comes about again, I suggest you fit it in to your busy fall schedule - it's not to be missed.
