West Seattle Drive, Ferry Ride & Bloedel Reserve Tour
September 20th The weather unfortunately did not cooperate for this year’s September event, however, there were some real troopers who braved the rain in their TFs an ‘A’ coupe and a ‘B’ roadster. Joining us for the Seattle side portion of the drive were Bill and Annett Dwyer in their TF (out for the first time this summer!), Alex Waugh in his TF and Mike, Mindy, Lilly and Annabelle in their MGA Coupe (all four of them came from Federal Way to Burien in that cockpit!!). After leaving Burien, the drive wound its way through the side streets of Shorewood, Fauntleroy, West Seattle, and Alki traveling at or near the water’s edge. Early on, the weather blocked much of the panoramic views of the trip, but as we progressed, the fog started to lift, and we were able to see the water. With our limited numbers allowing us to keep a quick pace, we managed to get to Coleman dock early enough to catch the 10:30am boat and thus arrived in Winslow with time to spare. We stopped for a quick Coffee and pastry at Black Bird Bakery and then walked up to the Bainbridge Farmers Market where there were plenty of wonderful things to attract our attention. Upon arriving at Fey Bainbridge State Park, we were met by Wayne and Laura Duncan, Larry and Gayla Kanaster, and Doug and Carey Murray all driving their modern vehicles, and Bill and Anne Olson driving their TF, and John and Donna Johnson in their ‘B’ roadster. Wayne arrived early and secured us a shelter where we stayed dry enjoying our lunch with good company and conversation. After a short drive following lunch, we arrived at the Bloedel Reserve where Anne Olson guided us through the many different gardens created by the Bloedels on what once was their private residence. For those of you who were not able to attend the drive, but wanted to see the route we took, follow the links below for a set of driving directions on Google Maps. Thank you to Alex Waugh and Mindy Rand for the photos. |
